Horrible, end of the world, apocalyptic shit in Muenster!!!

OK so maybe it's not that bad but it did get you to read the thread! No gory crashes or turkey attacks either... sorry. But it is really sad news.

Went to Muenster today with Lisa and Dax and for the umpteenth time Doc's was closed for lunch. I've gotten used to this over the years if I went during the week. Always open on the weekends but they had a weird semi-random weekday off program. Never could figure it out. Sure enough it was closed today so we ate at Rhomers... not a bad second choice at all! When leaving I asked out waitress about Doc's and the weird days off and she told me they have closed for good!

Probably the last time I ate there was in October on a weekday ride with Kevin and either before or after that with Alan and Lisa... can't remember which. I know the last Muenster ride I went on with Lisa was in January I think and yeah it was closed.

The gal at Rhomers said it was closed for good and up for sale! The family that owned it really only ran it for fun. They had other business interests where they made their money (I'm thinking oil/gas in that part of the world!) and Doc's was just a fun gig. Not only was it fun but it was very successful and very busy and if you have ever been in the restaurant business you know it is a lot of hard work! Especially if you are successful! It ended up being less fun and more work than they counted on so they shut the doors! How crazy is that??? With all the restaurants and businesses closing down everywhere due to the bad economy they closed down because they were too busy and it wasn't any fun anymore!!! That's just f#@king nuts!!

If I was still married to my first wife who was first in her class at culinary school and an awesome cook I would say let's move to Muenster and buy Doc's!! Thankfully I am not still married to her but what a great opportunity for someone in that market! It was busy during the week with locals, had a great beer garden patio, big ass room upstairs for big groups and was packed on the weekends with locals and bike riders. It ranks with Clark's BBQ in Tioga and the Koffee Kup in Hico for great local destination rides.

Lots of good memories there for sure! Sad to see it go. Hope it comes back to life in the near future.

The roads were terrible, just got done cleaning the hardley.  I hate chrome!  Next up willbe a blacked out pimp ride

Yes the roads have fallen in the dumpster in the last two months! Lisa and I did that ride not two months ago and none of those potholes or road construction was going one. The culprit has to be heavy oil field truck traffic. You saw all the wells being drilled. Each well accounts for untold amount of heavy 18 wheeler traffic. Don't see any road goodness happening up there any time soon. At least most of it was confined to a couple sections of road. That, the hurricane winds and the loss of Doc's kinda put a damper on what was an otherwise a great day of riding! [moto]

Great pix!  Now that was an awesome day for sure.

I think between the freeze/thaw cycles we've had lately and all the oil field trucks pounding the #$*% out of the roads up there, a pleasant Muenster Run is a long way off.  There were several one mile stretches out towards Forestberg in both directions that were getting repaved today with several more miles of recently repaired stretches still full of gravel and dust for about a 1/3 of the total trip... Buzz-kill deluxe.

Oh well. 

Enjoyed the lunch and the company.  Good tunes on the Harley jukebox as well

Sad state all around. Roads, Doc's, very sad. The Muenster run was my first run with the group in the summer of 2008. I almost  killed my self and so did Whitecat on that ride.

I didn't remember that being your first ride with the group.  I think I sat across from you and John that day...

That was one giant ride group for sure; 16 - 18 bikes as I recall  

Now, when is that Hico run?

My mishap came just as we were leaving out going west after the stop light. There were some bikes bunching up on the 90 degree left turn and I think I was a little too wide and maybe a little too fast. I had just bought the ST4s in August and this ride was in late October so I was still getting used to riding it plus the tires were not all that good. A pot hole just along the side of the pavement coupled with a concrete culvert header just below my tire I saw gave me that sinking feeling in my stomach as I accelerated and the back tire caught and righted the bike. After that it was slower into the corners and faster on the straights. Still couldn't keep with that yellow 999 in front of me or CJ's red/black monster. Dan was pressing down my back as well with his fire-breathing 696. Then on the famous left hand sweeper right in front of me Whitecat went tumbling over and over. I slowed down to take a look and trying to find a level spot to park I passed him lying on the ground motionless. Skeert me for a moment he wasn't going to get up.

With all due respect to Marquees (sp???) I refer to that turn as the Marquees Sweeper as a reference point on that route. As in: Forestburg is 8 miles past the Marquees Sweeper or such and such is about 3 miles before the Marquees Sweeper, etc.

Scary moments for sure. Made for a good example of everyone needing to swap out emergency info amongst fellow riders before any big ride. Just glad he was ultimately OK but they sure did kick him out of the hospital WAY too fast that night. They should have kept him overnight for observation. I'm sure he would agree.

I also remember a lot of spilled drinks at my end of the table at Doc's. Heck, we weren't even drinking yet!!

Yeah, we ate upstairs after "the crash". The patio pic was from a couple of years ago. I believe it was the run that had one section of road freshly graveled. I remember following Cory's S4RS and having his rear tire spit gravel at my bike and  my legs like a friggin' machine gun! I also remember it was fairly cool on the ride out but on the patio you got warm in the sun but if sat in the shade you were chilly. Really wanted to sit on the patio yesterday but that whole closed/for sale thing just messed that all up.
