so, a conversation I had posed a thought for interesting discussion....on dating.

So, you have multiple reasons nowadays for dating...but it seems in the day and age of techno touchbase with all the various social networking and websites and so forth...it begs a question...what is a date nowadays and how do people do it? Whether you have people who have been together for years and need to reconnect or reignite on a "date night" or someone who has been out of the game for so long that they need to try and establish contact again personally with someone, or some other reason entirely. Do the ideas of olde of like say, dinner and a movie, are they stale or not? What are the trending things that people seem to do?

I think a date is still a date... it's how folks are getting from meeting/ making first contact to that in-person date that's really changed/changing. It's not so much 'Hey, can I have your phone number?' anymore... but when the boots hit the dirt, you still have to meet, talk to and get along with that date.

Having been out of that scene for a few years and being 60 and clueless I can offer this observation....

I think the only distinction you find in the modern era is that kids are having trouble transitioning from "hooking up" to actually considering themselves "dating"........friends with benefits sorta stuff

It seems that the younger ones are having more casual sexual relations and relations in general as a precursor to dating rather than the old model

which was get the date and get to the sexual encounter

all they have done it seems is to have postponed the nervousness, insecurity and trepidation

and moved from asking someone out

to asking someone if they

are just hooking up or if they are dating

and they are waiting longer to start formal nuclear families etc

then there is the tragic sub-genus masturdator: the guy who dates and never gets to the nitty gritty

Many people, myself included, are finding dates online.  In the increasingly digital age and when people have so much information at their fingertips, and so little time, online dating is more and more common and no longer has the bad social stigma that it used to.  As for me, the more information that I know about my potential dates not only allows me to filter out potential dates, but it also lets me know something about her that can make initial conversations flow more easily since I already have some points of discussion.

As far as what is a date, that has ranged from coffee dates, dinners, dinner and a movie, rides on the Duc, and sharing adventures and experiences.  Sometimes these dates are to further explore commonalities and at times it's to experience something of the other person's world.  More than anything, it's just an excuse to get together.

If I were single, I'd either start dating girls at my gym or use some online service.  The problem with using an online service is you may prematurely eliminate someone for a trivial or perceived "offense," while you'd totally put the wood to the same person if you met her in a grocery store.

-In a brothel/Massage Parlor

-In a 12 Step Program of any stripe or variety

-In Central Booking
