a bike like a new 696 if it was offered that got 100mpg but with 15-20hp less for the same price as the current version ??

How do I create a poll here ??

sure why not with 50 or 60 hp you still doing good.

100 mpg leaves room for a second bike that you can run crazy with when you want

cc's are still 992

If gas prices get worse, then yes.  But I'd rather buy an SR series with those same specs.

Toucan

That's a great question.

If I was buying a bike to commute on, I'd take the 100 mpg version. If I was buying a bike to tear around on for the weekends, I'd take the bike with more HP and less mpg. If I needed a bike to do both, hmmm.... ???

sbrguy

without question.

i have a 620 it has 59hp on the dyno and gets 45 mpg with termi and pc3.  if i could get the exact same looking motorcycle or the 696 with the same hp and torque that i currently have but at 100mpg i'd go for it without hesistation.

i use my bike as a commuting bike so having to fill up every 3-4 weeks instead of every 1.5 weeks i would do in heartbeat.

Dude step up to the s2r1k if you are ready I just calculated the last couple of weeks I am doing around 41 to 42 mpg and having a riot doing it.

i'd would consider the s2r1000 if i hadn't already put so much into the current bike with the termi low mounts, steering damper and the fact that the monster city bags make the low mount exhaust bikes so conviennt.

trust me the s2r1000 is the bike i would get bc i do like the sss and the dry clutch so much, its a shame that the 620 doesnt' have either.  the only thing i don't like with the s2r1k is that whole closed loop problem with the idle hunting, etc.

100mpg?  Where do I sign up at!

Unfortunately all great EPA mileage motorcycles all have tons of fairings on them (wind resistance reduction) and look like bad kitchen appliances as a result thereof.  If one could retain the the Ducati Monster hallmark design language elements -- I think it would be a great success for commuter / fun use. (it won't replace the thundering weekend bike though)

I'm assuming either a radically smart ECU system w/cylinder cutout(?) or smaller displacement to make more efficient. (possibly in conjunction with narrower tires / harder compound for lower rolling resistance)  The cost of a hybrid setup is too cost prohibitive for such small volume manufacture unfortunately.

I know of folks with Ducati's currently who must deliberate between above basic food/eating or gasoline for their Ducati's.  I don't see gasoline getting any cheaper in the future nor food.

Now it's a poll.

DaveR, you should be able to edit the poll.
If you can't, give me a holler.

I like to be green, but am going to offer a dissenting opinion.

I ride motorcycle for pleasure and not transport purpose.  Doubling the MPG at the expense of ~25 rwhp is not a choice I will make.

mitt

So, a full size standard 50HP bike that looks good, gets 100mpg, and costs 7000.  Sure, I would be more interested in it than a regular 696.

I didn't vote.  I'd rather see a win win option  ...more hp with more mpg

No, on the basis that it would change the character of the bike beyond what I consider a Monster to be.

If I would be looking for 100 mpg, I'd consider a Vespa or similar smaller sized scooter, which can be fun on their own.

KTMCHEESE

I'm satisfied with the mpg my S4Rs is getting but the range is absolutely deplorable. Is getting 150-160 miles per tank too much to ask for?

oregunduc

I would, the extra mileage gains might make up for the retarded maintenance costs [laugh]
