Safelite repair, Safelite replace, Safelite break your damn windshield

I had two rock chips in my front window on my car. I filed a glass claim with Geico and they suggested I use Safelite to repair the chips. Everything was online and smooth.

And like a paranoid sort, I of course print out every page of the filing and registration (print to PDF)

Safelite shows up, says yeah I can fix that, and would you like your car vacuumed? and now I have a 6" wide crack in one spot (where there was a 2mm chip) and a 4" wide crack in another spot (where there was a 5mm chip)

He tells me AFTER he's finished that breakage is a risk. I say WTF, why didn't you tell me that BEFORE you started?

I called GEICO and told them to replace my window.  They said no, call Safelite.  Safelite says no, that they gave me a pamphlet AFTER the procedure which warns of this possibility.. LOL

Anyhow, they are both pointing fingers.  Geico says "we notified you of this risk" and I say "I have every page of my claim printed out, tell me where it says that.."

Safelite did not notify me of the risk of breakage. Geico did not notify me of the risk of breakage.

Both are playing dumb.

So I am filing in court next week.  With all of my documents.

I will get a new windshield.

Be advised.  When you get a "windshield repair" that they can break your windshield.

Before you get the procedure done, change your comprehensive deductible to ZERO.  Make the claim, and then do it.

when they are done and it's perfect, change your deductible back to whatever.

My deductible is $250.  Guess how much a windshield costs?  $250.  It's as if Geico and Safelite are in collusion to run up business for themselves.

Assholes.

Meanwhile, I got a quote from Progressive for my cars, bikes and house = $800 cheaper for the year.

Any reason I should NOT switch to Flo?

This was originally a 2mm chip:

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Make sure you compare the policies carefully so that you get an apples to apples comparison. Usually if there is a substantial difference then the coverage is significantly less. If they are essentially the same coverage but cheaper, then make the switch.

WARNING: Reading through insurance policies and comparing them is mind numbingly boring. Your health may be affected.

I've had Progressive on the moto for over a year, but I've never made a claim thru them. I have heard they can be a real pregnant dog when trying to file a claim. When I wrecked the bike a few weeks ago, I just paid out of pocket for everything since it was only about $400 in damage and I didn't want my rates to go back up.

I had Flo for my bike...

When I ran into the back of my buddy on his 848...who also had Flo...

they wouldn't pay.

I wouldn't use them on a bet.

YMMV

WTF? How can they refuse to pay? Did they give a reason why they were refusing?

Yup...

they said neither of us were at fault, and the police report didn't place blame on the guy that pulled out in front of us.

Next time I'll hit the car.  [bang] [bang] [bang]

You deal with USAA. USAA deals with Progressive.

The Mad King Pepe'

I've switched back and forth between the two a couple times now. Progressive is usually cheaper than Geico, but they let me down a few times.

Final straw was when a guy in a van made a right turn from the middle lane (I was in the right lane) and Progressive let him go because he claimed his van was a long vehicle... time to install a dash cam in the car.

Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.
