My car makes a similar noise but its the power steering pump screaming.

It's going to be 77 degrees here later this week.  We topped 80 last week.

make the beast with two backs the snow.  I spent too many months (take this to mean more than a single day) at Fort Drum in the winter.  As I was leaving (in December) I rejoiced that my timing was excellent as the light turned red... and I slid directly through the intersection at the same speed at which I attempted to stop 200 feet before the limit line: 25 mph.

If I ever forget how much I hate snow, I can go visit it.

It must be spring here now - it wasn't below zero this morning!

Up to a balmy 15 here today, first time in weeks.  [thumbsup]

How long will it last....

It's Fall here now and was 87 yesterday. Autumn here is the best riding weather in the year (especially for track days). Feel for you guys.
Bring on global warming!

yea, I can't tell if it's either that or the turbo.. I've always figured the later.  would have to be under the hood while someone else turned it on I guess..

I've been enjoying this thread. (welcome to my world  ;))
Most memorable experience this winter.
This winter has been warm really warm. (I saw someone  [Dolph] a month ago  :o)
However, two hitches ago (I work week on / week off on an offshore oil platform) at 4:10 in the morning the SGLC (1,000 hp gas compressor) shut down on high discharge temp.
So much for a leisurely hot shower and breakfast, on with the coveralls.......hi ho hi ho, it's off to.....
This was not a warm day, oh no this was a seasonable day for Alaska in late January, 15* and a 20 mph wind out of the north.
The fin fan (10' sq radiator) bearings we intended to change during the next planned shutdown had failed.
Did I mention that said fin fan is on the north edge of the platform (you can look over the side and watch the ice float by) with nothing to break the north wind, in fact it acts like a venturi.
There are about a gazillion bolts (nicely rusted from the salt water) holding the shroud / guard on. Undo two, go place gloves on Modine heater diffuser, stand in front of same heater with hands held out until feeling returns, go back out for two more, rinse and repeat.
The foreman did come up and check on progress for about 30 seconds, unlike the seal oil pump failure when he bird-dogged us for 12 hours. (of course that was inside)

Like someone told me years ago "It builds character" which really means "it really sucks", but the next beer does taste better because you know deep down that you earned it.
A conclusion is the place you got tired of thinking

Much respect sno duc. Many people don't know what "hard and dangerous" work is.
It's like repeatedly hitting yourself in the head with a board, it feels really good when you stop.
But the beer tastes very good after.

Our piddly ass winters sure don't hold a candle to Alaska.  Especially if you are doing anything around or over water.  That's some rough work.

We just got another 6" of snow last night.

If you have mosquitoes that brave 11* weather, I want to know nothing about them.

Except maybe where you are so I never go there ;D
