They say there's no more trellis, which is a little bit emotional for Ducati, but a carbon fiber monocoque doesn't really sound too terrible.

Sure it does. Monocoque is a French word!  [puke]  No Italian love there.
He man, where are all the ads?

well, there's no way they can call it a ducati if it does not have a trellis frame. whats next? a wet clutch? NO SOOOOOUUUUUUL!!!!
[laugh]

Actually, I for one welcome our new monocoque overlords. Then in a few years we can have a monocoque Monster and really freak some folks out.

I found this link..   enjoy...!!   :-\  http://www.duccutters.com/AlexOrtner-1036CS.tpl

I believe this is a  GP8, but I dont see the trellis any more..

And this link tells a little about a new frame..!  http://www.montgomerybikers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55496

This is the only picture I was able to find that shows a C.F. frame, even if it is just a little pic..!!

But every one is talking about it so it may be the real thing..!!

Looks better with the trellis frame. Hold on to the Monster you have.

One thing to remember, The MotoGP bikes are purely prototype bikes, so anything seen on the MotoGP bikes does not mean it will make it into production.

In a recent interview with the designer (Sorry can't remember his name) (Ex F1 designer) he made the comment that with only minor changes to thickness and lay of the Carbon fiber they can tune the frame to suit individual tracks, but they held off further development until Stoner gave it his blessing, Which he since has.
Makes a lot of sense to me, They have been doing different Chassis in WRC and F1 for different tracks for a number of years.

Only a matter of time before MotoGP caught on.

I don't think our Trellis frames are going anywhere soon.

Yes, Juan, that Photo is of the GP8, seen that photo elsewhere, Photo's of the GP9 naked would be almost impossible to get hold of, Ducati will be immensely protective of the new Technology in the GP9, so if they do have the Fairing's off they will have all covers up and roller doors on the pit boxes closed.
If any Photographers got photographs of the GP9 naked, they would most likely have a Lawyer chasing them down the street with the threat of being sued back to the Dark ages if the Photo's got out.

Thinking about the economics, I can't see the CF mono coming to the Monster line.  The Monster is Ducati's bread and butter.  If they go with the CF mono frame, the price would go up and they would lose market share to the monster copies.  Keeping the $$ within reach of the target market is key.  CF mono is a cool, but mostly esoteric design thing.  Maybe a premium priced 1098 feature.

I think you'd have some issues with rigidity unless you increased the tubing size. I'm not an expert though.
