DMF greatness is not limited to being an "American".  If you go into the Australia and Japan sections, you'll find people who are just as cool and helpful!!

The reason this place is so great is because the "flounders" and members alike actually care about the board and what it means to all of us.

Most people here are highly educated-working professionals and mature enough to respect the board rules.  It's a mellow atomosphere and most people remain civil..even in heated discussions.  It's not about arguing about our differences.  It's not about my bike is bigger, better or faster than yours.  It's about riding and being a part of the Ducati community.

I've been fortunate enough to have met a couple DM(L)F'ers since joining in '02.  I've ridden with and welcomed them (sometimes even complete strangers) into my home and vice-versa.  I've made several life-long friends in here!

You are right though.  It is a great place and I intend on staying a long time..even if it means putting up with the inevitable iz_IZ_nailsstungbyabeemovingagainnamechangejokes!

All I know is the Flounders pay me in Valium...

Nate is old enough to have a stash of quaaludes for ya!  [laugh]

As many of the other posters have already said, this place just feels right for most of us.  It's fun, informative, not pretentious, etc.

Plus, where else can we pick on IZ continually?  ;)

Why is it so? I know that Americans are considered to be outgoing -

Americans are considered outgoing?  I thought we were arrogant assholes?

Whatever though.  This board is worldwide.  Everyone here has some good about them.   [drink]

Must be a combination of both I think.
German Ducati forums I tried are very...strange...gaskrank...posh...and make you feel you are the noob.
But I don't think I would like an American Harley forum that much either ;)
I love this place...Stars´n´ [bacon]

As with other relationships or aspects of life I will try to focus on the fact that it just feels right and not question why.

I'm having a constructive and developing year. Riding my Monster and being here are contributing factors.

Thank you all [thumbsup]

The DMF is one of the better forums it tends to have more veteran members. By that i mean folks who have been around bikes a bit, had a few in their time and tend to know their onions. Enthusiasts if you like.
And people who do their own work/mods.
My pet hate is cheque book bandits.  Any fool can order a stack of parts and have somebody else fit them.
Theres alot of bikes here with more depth than that.

There are the others here too tho.
members with 3 posts which are all " i've bought a s4rs tricolore how can i make it faster" or "should i buy a s4rs or a 848/"
And the folks who only have a bike cos its trendy and their Ducati is a fashion acessory.

There seem to be more of them on other forums

I have read all of the responses and agree with much of what was said...my thoughts follow.

From what some others have said, it appears that the American aspect has something to do with the style and substance of this Forum...at least I want to think so since I am a "Merican". But IMO it is more the fact that Ducatis have never generally been a riders first bike. So many people want to follow the crowd. The younger set of followers want the latest, highest HP, best press in the MC rags, 600 or liter crotch rocket. The older crowd of followers want the Harley...."If you don't ride a Harley, you ain't $hit" kinda attitude.

Ducati riders eschew that whole mind set and though they buy Ducatis for different reasons I think that many of them deisre the unique, something that can't be found on every street, a bike passers by look at and wonder a bit about.

That said, I think many of us are kindred spirits and though we have our differences, we can relate to our fellow Duck riders and, like them or not, we have a connection with them and thus some level of respect.

I would also guess that the average Ducati owner is older than the average Japanese sport bike owner...Maturity leads to far less penis comparing, a higher level of respect for others and willingness to be open minded and see both sides of an issue. Those qualities seem to foster an interested and helpful attitude a less selfish mindset.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.
