I picked up this RX-7 Corsair from eBay - it cost me 50% less than here in Spain. I love the paintjob. I'm awaiting the new visor for it now.

I've been using this RF-1000 for more than four years now. I love the helmet. If you get enough bugs on the faceshield, it's not as much of a bother as just a few bugs. Yellow makes you more visible than just about any other color you can choose.

I would have to say the Boxer are true to their sizing. My boxer is a XL and it fits snug. I had a Shoei ZII XL and Arai RX7 XL and those fit snug too. I hope that helps.
I got the helmet off ebay.

Surely there must be some serious wind noise with vents like those ?
It's really not bad at all. My old KBC force RR seems louder.
It's one of Sharks top of the line helmets, Miguel Duhamel wears it so it can't be that bad.
I like it.
But those are some BIG ASS vents. ;D
I've got a matte black Shoei RF-1000 with a black windscreen.

Ok ok, I wasn't going to play but I'm bored since my ride got rained out >:(
Anyway, I've owned A LOT of helmets, the ones I still have are my faves. I have a few more than the ones pictured but I was too lazy to unearth them.
Shark RSR2 & Shark RSI -
(http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a335/darkside2323/photo-34.jpg)
The RSI is my everyday beater/commuter helmet. Both helmets are super plush, have amazing fog free visors, my only complaint is that they DO NOT vent well at all, while that's great for off season cold rides, it's not so great for the summer heat.
Shoei X11 (with my own custom stickers ;D) & Suomy Spec 1R
(http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a335/darkside2323/photo-2-15.jpg)
The Shoei is my FAVORITE helmet hands down. Super easy visor changes, great aerodynamics, ,and most importantly, it vents air very very well. So much so that I can feel the air moving across my face, up my forehead, and over my scalp. No other helmet I've owned did that for me.
The Suomy is also great. It doesn't move air as well as the Shoei, but it's lighter which helps out my neck on all day rides. I just wish the visor was easier to change... not that it's hard but it's a PITA to have to pull off the side pods.
The newest latest... OGK FF5. Not available in this country (it's from Japan). It's super light, a bit too power ranger looking but whatever. My thoughts after only 1 ride? It moves a lot of air like the Shoei, the visors are very easy to change and the aerodynamics? The BEST. The Shoei and Suomy are both great in this regard when you're facing forward but when you turn your head to check for cars or when I turn 180° on the bike to look for my sweeping rider, I get headshake from the turbulence. With this OGK? None on that at all. The build quality is right up there with the X11 and the Arai RX7 to boot.
The previous OGK models (FF3, FF4) used to carry a DOT and a SNELL certification but this doesn't because they are no longer sold here in the States. I spoke to their Japanese distributor before buying the helmet and he told me that they can easily get a DOT and SNELL certification if enough interest was shown (they basically have to pay for the right to bear the stickers). As it stands, they carry the Japanese SG safety standard which is the highest in the world (DOT included), and is approved by the FIM. My new Fave apart from the looks? Maybe...

Then somewhere lurking in the back of my closet I have an AGV Stealth and X2R that I haven't worn in forever, and I also have a solid black Suomy Spec 1R that serves as my other beater. Too many helmets? Probably.
This is my new helmet Arai Profile I love it. It replaced a Arai Signet GTR.

April,
How does the SHark fit compared to the AGV? I currently have 2 AGVs (older base modelRossi replica, X-Vent Rossi Mugello 2001) and a GP Tech Rossi Dreamtime on the way. Butafter spending over $700 on a helmet, I am looking for something I feel a bit more comfortable wearing day to day. Hehe.

It's a silly design, but it fits me very well (and I almost never have to look at it anyway!)

I have this lid and have to say that I am unimpressed with the build quality and components. In addition, although it fits my head well, it suffers from lift and buffetting at highways speeds. I recently purchased a Shoei X-11 and have to say that it is a much better helmet although that should be expected for the price difference.
I've got the Shoei X11 Kiyonari TC-1 and Zampf L20-LE Modular

AGV Ti-Tech. Giacomo Agostini replica in the "race" fit. Much nicer than my old matte black RF-1000. It fits pretty tight, especially around the ears, but other than that, it fits my head perfectly. Ventilation is quite good, especially up front, and I have yet to see if fog yet. The liner is also very smooth and comfortable. It's also much quieter than than the RF-1000, and lighter too. Overall, I'm definitely liking the helmet. I especially love the graphics. A tribute to one of the best racers ever!
Now all I need is an MV Agusta hahaha.

Just got a new Arai Corsair V with the wider view from the wider opening , wider visor . The new adjustable rear Spoiler wing with 5 positions for less Helmet buffeting at high speed.
Also the Brow vents are new in that they are more to the outside to direct forced air to the temple area of the head.
There is a new Emergency check pad system in case of a crash and Emergency personnel need to be able to remove the cheek pads while the Helmet is still on the head. Dolph

Looks like he had a template and cut them flat without any cut outs for the curve. You can see from the reflection that he got some folding in a couple places because he didn't have slits for the curve of the helmet.
Still a nice job! [thumbsup]

Very, very good. I had it on yesterday and today (90s °F and humid), and it was great. The shield is fog free too. I tried to fog it up at a few traffic signals to no avail.
I still can't get over how light it is, and how little wind noise there is. I don't think that I'll need earplugs for long trips. :o Downside is that I cannot fit my earbuds (I haven't tried yet, but I doubt it).
I've got an RSR2 as well, had it for about 2 years. The ventilation is the best of any helmet I've had until now, it never fogs up on me and is highly adjustable.

You don't NEED a ton of helmets I've got a bunch for different reasons, the scorpion has had the shit crashed out of it, the arai is my fav and daily use, the other's just came along with ex's and such. I'm a moto courier and they all get a massive amount of use.
I have a good friend who works at arai and the 5 year thing is pretty stand up. Moisture in the polystyrene and UV on the shell take their toll. Helmet tech seems to make pretty big jumps in 5 years especially with snell 2010 coming up (new testing method that will make safer helmets) and it's going to require a lot of helmet manufactures to step up the game some of the smaller ones might not make it.
Thought I'd contribute another pic. ;D

sorry for the mess, i was working on some signal/lighting work, which means victory shots once its done!
My Bell Racestar from a few years back. Great helmet but designed for use in cars...heavy with a relatively small eye port. Used it for Formula Vee, karting, and Miata track events. Painted it myself...also painted several for other racing friends. Now have a plain-jane jellow RF1000 that is getting dressed up with reflective graphics.

I was chopping up about 20 onions the other day in prep for a large Packers/Vikings game party. Instead of weeping all over the place from the syn-propanethial-S-oxide vapors, I put on my Shoei RF-1100. I don't care if I looked like an idiot, it did the job.

I've always used Scorpion Exo-700s, primarily because 90% of my riding is on the track and I can't afford to trash very many $500 helmets. The Scorpions have done very well in protecting my head. I have had 1 concussion but I flew about 12 feet in the air and came down squarely on the back of my head on the pavement and don't believe any helmet would have prevented it. Coincidentally, that one concussion occured the first and only time I ever wore a Scorpion "Crackhead" helmet... lol. My only requirement for my Scorpions is that it must have some red in the scheme (nothing to do with Ducati). I feel its worth mentioning when I got that concussion, that crackhead helmet was the first time I broke my color rule (it was white/grey) too...
I wore the Raider for a long time but my most recent favorite is the Burst:

I have had several different brands but like Shoei the best...for me. Here is one reason why...

Too bad they are discontinued. I wanted a red/white Burst but couldnt find one in my size. New Enough had them at $119 (may still, but sizing was limited). I checked out the EXO700s at a local shop and the quality and finish impressed me.
i got the exo 700 and im very pleased with it, so far the no fog lens does not fog up. My friend with a Shoei X-11 has only the complaint the lens fogs even with a anti fog thing he put on it. And that is why i saved $450 and bought the exo 700.
It is the most bang for your buck helmet (or so i am told ..sucker born everyday)

I paid $77 for mine from Motorcycle Closeouts. Have used it for a month now and I like it. Not quite as good a fit as my RF1000...chin bar on the Sparx is closer to my mouth, but it is comfortable and reasonably quiet.

When I bought my first Monster it came with a new black HJC. It was ok. It fit well, but it was heavy.
I knew a guy that was working at my local Ducati dealer and he showed me this new helmet that he had bought to go with his Monster that was on order. Well a few weeks later I dropped by and still no bike. The new plan was to buy a used 748. Next thing I heard was that this dude was in jail on drug charges.
Several months had gone by and I had forgotten about the helmet. I was getting some work done on my car one day and I saw the guy. He was out of jail and now working on cars. He said that he just got out and needed some cash. He sold me this helmet for $100 new in the box. I gave the HJC to a friend and have used this one. I love it. Right time, right place I guess.

Neat features in that Givi. Does it pass DOT/Snell/or ECE with that removable chin guard?

MD,
According to GIVI, this X-01 is 'homologated' as a FULL helmet.
If you feel like browsing the web a bit, here's the link, http://www.givi.it/helmets/Fullface-helmet/ (http://www.givi.it/helmets/Fullface-helmet/)
The 40.1 is not USA homologated; the rest, actually don't say...

what you typed here is accurate, but it also says its E3 P/J which means its ece certified with or without the chin guard I believe.
I never ride with it jet syle, the 'summer' full face bar allows a ton of airflow, and I really like my chin [drink]. I'm pleased with it, my only two complaints are the flip down sun shade doesn't come low enough and it's not as plush as say a Shoei.

misterburns,
none of my 2 helmets, the Nitro N810-X[aka Zox Thunder R] and my Nolan X601 Checa Replica, have a DOT/Snell sticker on them, but, they do have the BMS/ECER22-05 and the JIS sticker and are no different from the helmets I've tried when visiting the US, so for me, the DOT sticker is a 'gentelmans word' and the SNELL sticker says that the helmet passes certain tests.
Yes, I do trust more the Europeans in straight out safety and yes, the Japanese, if they weren't so high in the price range for me[somehow European helmets are cheaper than Japanese in comparable specs].
I'm looking for another 'second' helmet, my Nitro suffered in my accident, the left side is cracked but my head didn't suffer. I'm leaning towards either a Shark or Suomy in the European front and was trying to decide between a Shoei or Arai but, now I get to know about Akuma so, new player, new comparasion.

So I'll be an old man of 26 before I'm out of college.....
Then maybe I can afford a replica helmet.
I've been looking for close to a year for that one perfect helmet. I lucked out a few weeks ago while I was away in Italy. I ventured over to the Ducati Roma store. There it was, a special addition Schuberth Ducati C3. Light as a feather and fit like a glove. Low wind noise, internal visor, everything I was looking for (except ... no bluetooth, but that's coming later). At speed over 70+ the wind no longer pushes my head back. The aerodynamics are really awesome. I love this thing but my credit card isn't as happy :)

Dano,
If you add the nose guard (breath guard/deflector?), it will fill most of the gap under the sun visor.
Looks cooler and blocks some disturbing light.
I have the R1. Amazing aerodynamics, but deafening wind noise.

Interesting. Do you know where I might get one of those nose guard? I also know what you mean about the wind noise. Usually it's really quite, but if I tilt my head forward there is a position where the wind noise is greatly amplified. Sounds like the helmet is no longer on my head. Other than that I'm really pleased with this helmet.

I totally agree. There are some really cool graphics out there for helmets, but I was looking for a cleaner, I guess, more professional kind of look. That's just me. When I saw this helmet I knew I had found it, and it was a Schuberth to boot. Can't beat that.

If I stand up, above the fairing turbulence, it's scaringly quiet. Must be very sensitive to turbulence. Yours should be better...
I saved this link as a great source for spare parts, but they don't list them on their site anymore. LOL. Thanks, too bad I can barely boil water. I need to find a girlfriend that can cook :)
I like the modular for the convenience it offers and it really comes in handy on hot days here in SoCal, say, waiting at a light. It did set me back a bit (USD$750) but that was the only option. I've never seen this helmet offered anywhere else before and I can't find it anywhere online so I figured get it now or live with out it. No regrets here. Plus at that price it gives me great incentive to be sure to keep the rubber side down.

Dude!! I can't tell you how many times I almost pulled the trigger on this helmet. I just don't want to buy one without trying it on!
More pics please?

i would reco you try it on before you buy if possible. i wear a med or large usually in helmets. as i mentioned it the prev post, i have a wide head, so if its a wide fit i wear med; otherwise i wear a lrg. With this helmet, its a wide fit but i could not get my head into the opening of a med. even the large was difficult but it fits very nice once it got it over my head. i would say the size runs small. the large is similar to a arai quantum medium but rounder, esp at the top.
the mouthguard is only a guard and allows a lot of air to come through. as its gotten colder here in the northeast, i've covered the vents to reduce the airflow. you'll also notice there is no cutout for ears. does this matter? yes and no. it doesn't bother me or my ears but you should be aware that you may need to stick you fingers into the helmet and fix your folded ears. I have not tried but using headphones or an intercom system may be uncomfortable.
Theres also less foam but comfort hasn't been an issue for me. when i pick up my old helmet, it has about half inch of soft foam but that helmet was always very uncomfortable due to the fit. this helmet just fits so much better it didn't matter even with only about a 1/4 inch soft padding. (edit, i'm talking about the foam at the top and sides of your head. not the foam at your neck/checks which is the thickest in trad helmets. this helmet has none of that. NONE. )
if your head is long from the front to back, i can imagine this will not fit well. that or you will have to order 2 sizes up.(due to shape and it running small) if your head is wide (and shorter front to back), putting it on will be a pain in the butt initially but the fit is good.
The following is a VERY VERY ROUGH measurement. I measured without pushing the padding in. keep in mind the scorpion has a bit more give. you'll see that i had to buy a large scorpion for the width but i ended up having way to much space front to back. for "normal" sized heads, the opposite may hold true for the airoh (you may need to buy for front to back space but it might be too wide)
front to back interior length:
Scorpion exo-700 large: 8 inches
airoh tr2 large: 7.5 inches
side to side interior length:
scorpion: 5.5 inches
airoh: 6 inches
not sure what photos you're looking for. heres a few more. if you want to see anything specific, let me know.

look at that size difference!!!!
hope this helps if you plan to buy without trying it on.
Wow, thanks a million live2ride!
That shell does look small, so if I do buy, perhaps a medium is in order.
No plans to travel to europe in the near future for me...

Nate, do you like the AGV as much as an RX-7 ?

So far I think I like it a bit more.
The fit is great, no pressure points, and it is much lighter. It's a little noisier, but not from wind. I just hear the bike more.
It is a different helmet. There is much more of it in front of your face, and it's kind of like looking out of a tunnel. If you look up you can see the padding.
I'll let you know better after a couple of years. I liked the RX-7 right up until I retired it.
My RF1000:
I also have the RF1100 in silver with the same sticker in black. [evil]
AGV GP Tech (last year's Combat red)
$375 at STG.
It's slightly shorter than my Schuberth R1, but still a oval/long oval.
Clearly a race helmet with only medium comfort.
Really large shell, my 3XL shares the largest of three shell sizes with the 2XL.
Less wind noise and equal exhaust/engine/ambiant noise (still requires ear plugs)
Wide in the front, tear drop shape - little/no buffeting.
I'm happy finding another 3XL that fits my long oval HUGE head [thumbsup]

Finally got around to getting some reflective vinyl and finishing my lid. We'll see how long the stickers last.
It's just a plain old Scorpion 700
You can kind of see the stickers. Sadly the vinyl I got wasn't as black or as reflective as I had hoped but I only paid $13 shipped for 12x15" piece so I guess I can't complain much.

Ha... exactly. Actually, one of them is for my wife, one of them belongs to my daughters and the others are mine. I have some for the harley and others for the monster. The orange one I had when I lived in australia. It's probably 12 years old!

It served me well.
I decided after my old helmet saved my life that I'd keep it as a reminder and example and testament to why I religiously wear a full face helmet! [thumbsup]
Bought em plain white... Couple of dollars worth of high quality reflective tape and good decals and I had Helmets that I like more than the busier Duc branded...

Bought a new Z1R Venom last week. My KBC Force RR finally gave up the ghost. Looked left to change lanes going about 75 and the wind caught the visor. Visors are no longer available for it so I had to get a new helmet. Read a report that showed that the Z1R's transmit less g's to the head in a crash than most other helmets on the market. Almost 1/2 the g's as some of the high $$$ snell rated helmets. Found 'em on sale for $90 brand new, couldn't pass it up, as they're normally $160.
It's a bit too round for me, (I need a long oval) but it's not uncomfortable. I've gotten used to it.
It's loud as shit, both wind and bike noise, definitely need earplugs. The KBC was dead quiet compared to this thing.
But the field of view is friggin amazing compared to the KBC.
Will probably get a Shark when I find a job and have the $$, but this one will more than suffice for now.
Here's a couple o' shitty pics. Ignore the dog, it's past her bedtime.

I'd previously had an EXO-700, and since it was comfortable and kept my head from breaking into a million billion pieces when I bounced it off a car, I figured I could probably buy a Skorpion lid again. [thumbsup]
So now I've got the EXO-750 "Vintage."
