Ok, I'll buy your 999 now. ;D 8)
Congrats; can't wait to see, and hear the difference.
Yep, can't wait. Will ship from an ebay seller tomorrow. Be here in 3 to 5 business days. Ended up selling for slightly less than half the price of new... or roughly a 1/4 the value of my bike [bang] [laugh] Factor in the Power Commander and tuning... Holy crap! What have I done [evil]
Sounds great [thumbsup]
The UPS tracking data for delivery shows this being delivered this Tuesday, 4/12. So that will give me several days before the weekend to take things apart so the exhaust system install will be (and I hesitate to use this term), as easy as possible [bang] [laugh]
If anyone is free this coming Saturday and would like to cruise by and say hi, shoot the shit, and have a beer, come on by!
Waiting for parts is the freakin worst! Crongrats and I hope all goes well with the install!

Orlando, actually. "Scheduled for delivery by end of day 4/12/11" Hmmph [popcorn]

You can use mine. Just let me know and I'll dismount the kraut bike. M is still on couch duty so there should be someone home all day.

O.K. tomorrow a.m. I'm going to borrow a wheel chock from Will (thanks very much!) then I should be able to start dismantling everything by noon. It's not a complex job so I would think I can start trying to fit the new pipes by 2 or so.
Of course I'm not factoring in any time for cleaning every single part in sight... as is my custom [bang] [laugh]
So, I'll still be at it Saturday for sure [bang] In fact, if you want to come over on Saturday morning or afternoon and help or just supervise, we'll have burgers and brats out on the grill.

And here's the mid pipe section comparison. Stock has a 3rd catalytic converter.

Tomorrow morning I'll polish out some of the mottling on the new pipes and then try to put it all on.
What are the chances the install goes as smoothly as the removal...

Way to go Lisa! Hope the ECU issue goes well too. I'm clueless about Power Commander/Ducati stuff. All my Duc ECU stuff is DP issue. All my Jap sbk ECU stuff is Power Commander. see if you can get your OEM ECU reflashed to the DP spec.
Nemesis and Microtek are the "way" to go for a thoroughly mapped-for-your-bike option. But they come, essentially, blank. And require a lot of programming / tuning by a shop that is knowledgeable with that product.
So with the *HIGH* cost of the Nemesis or Microtek units, coupled with the *HIGH* tuning costs, it starts to look not so awesome with only mild motor changes, like a full-system exhaust.
It's alive! Everything went on pretty much to plan. Big thanks to LYD for helping out [thumbsup]

All of the pieces polished. I found the best results with Mother's Aluminum and Mag Polish applied
with green scotchbrite. Then finished it off with a fine grain polishing foam pad. Light coat of BelRay
grease to keep the shine.

Looks great. Sounds even better. Great ground pounding base.
There are two fitment issues, neither of which are show stoppers or ones that will keep me from riding it once all the bodywork is back in place. Very tight fit pretty much everywhere but overall a nice, well-made set of pipes that I can - so far - recommend. I'll be curious to see how it all works after a few hundred miles. Will run it with no ECU; Leo Vince says it is designed to do that, so that's what I'm going with for now... We'll see ;)
See y'all out there [moto]
What's the difference in WEIGHT?
Stock was 20 lbs measured with a bathroom scale; Leo Vince cannister was 10 lbs [thumbsup] I expect improvements in the handling department. Haven't had a chance to test that yet tho.
Very nice! Can't wait to hear it.
Looks great polished up [thumbsup]

nice!! very Nice!! they look awesome, cant wait to hear them!
anytime, give me a call.
There were metal fiber ring gaskets in all of the junctions of the stock set of pipes and in the Leo Vince set. They appear to be one-use-only and none were re-usable. So before I put any miles on the motor, I would like to fit new exhaust system gaskets.
Are these exhaust gaskets Ducati parts or can I go to a muffler shop and try to find some?
I had a similar gaskets in the hyper's exhaust (rear cylinder header to cat), and I reused it without issue. I would try using them first.
Looked like well-shaped steel wool?

There's a central grove in the gaskets that don't seem to fully re-align and seat in the Leo Vince application. I saved three or four that were reasonably intact but I just don't feel good about using them.
If you would ever clean your bike... ;D
Awesome!!! [thumbsup]
i think those are the reusable ones too, but would need to see a picture to verify
Well, install FAIL. The midpipe touches the rear crank case bolt enough to leave a dent in the pipe.
And the second crankcase bolt nearest the back of the motor is awfully close as well:
I need the horizontal part of the midpipe to move over to the left about a 1/4 of an inch. I think I'm going to try and move the midpipe mounting tab to the other side of the frame mounting bracket. It's on the right side now:
But the one crappy picture on the Leo Vince website appears to show the midpipe mounted the way it is now...
Adding the exhuast gaskets at all the pipe junctions might free up some space along the rear of the crank case as well. These gaskets are the only ones salvageable from my other exhaust system:
Is there something I'm over-looking? I'm really not happy to do the install job again but as it sits right now, it is not going anywhere. Dammit :P
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I agree with trying to loosen it up and move the bracket to the inside. you will probally need to remove a spring or 2 also. I know its a pain in the arse, but it WILL be worth it. Need some help?? I could swing by say tomorrow around noonish? call me. I should be up. is all the body work off? or have you completely put it back together?
LYD, the body work is off and I could use your help. I'll be home all day on Wednesday. If you could cruise over around noon that would be awesome. Thanks!
I feel your pain... It took a TON of wrestling and wiggling (and cursing...) to get the Muzzy exhaust mounted on my DR-Z. A slight wiggle one way would make the header hit the frame, a wiggle the other way would make the mid-pipe hit the shock, and just when both of those were perfectly lined up... the muffler's mounting bracket wouldn't line up with bolt in the subframe. It wasn't pretty, and took several hours to get right. (And it turned out that the previous owner had forgotten to ship me the two 10mm spacers needed to get the alignment correct on the subframe... [bang] [bang] [bang])
Yipes! THat does sound like a nightmare. Maybe we shlould have a thread that is only about moto mods that went exactly according to plan (mods that didn't take three times as long to install than they should and didn't cost twice as much as originally planned...) [bang] [laugh]
I've taken it all apart again and now it seems to clear everything... Weird. I need to put the spring fasteners back on and the bodywork to be 100% sure she's gonna fly.
Thanks everyone for the advice and support - y'all rock!

Glad you got it!
You heard my and Alan's head banging stories of aftermarket pipe fitment over BBQ last week. You have been thoroughly warned! [laugh] [laugh] You are venturing into X-Files territory. ;D Good luck Luke Skywalker!! ;D
[popcorn] pics and sound clip please.
Can't do a sound clip cos I'm a techno-zero, but I do have an update: the re-install solved all my clearance issues. I'm probably going to dremmel a very small portion of body work on the bottom of the left side panel near the kickstand just so I don't have to worry about the horizontal midpipe bubbling my decal set in that area :o Pre-emmtive at this point - I think - but melted bodywork would be a real negative [bang]
I also dremmel'd a larger opening on the left side of the V-piece for more through-put along the lower edge of the bodywork.
I actually have yet to ride it since I started this project two weeks ago; I didn't get back from Austin until noon this afternoon then I spent literally five hours trying to fit the wiring for the rear brake light and turn signals so they wouldn't fry... Done, and done now but, holy crap, what a giant pain in the arse. So burned out I haven't even fired it up again to see if the brake light works.
Tomorrow will hopefully be the maiden voyage. Will keep you posted [beer]
[thumbsup]
I love my dremmel.
YEA! I'm as loud as calscrazy and LYD now [evil]
After a 90 minute ride, I have to say this exhaust system was worth every dime. Noticeably improved midrange power; improved handling (whack 20 lbs cantilevered off the back and amazing things happen [laugh]); and awesome off-throttle sound. And all in a tidy package...
Of course there are trade offs. Mainly range. My fuel light came on 15 miles earlier than usual :o Keeping rear tires for more than 1500 miles will be a challenge as will keeping my drivers license.
Disappointments? The exhaust does not shoot flame...
Here's the last of my pix:

the midpipe:

Nice! I was thinking the same thing. I wonder what that would look like on the Harley...
Any update Lisa? How's it running? Did you keep the stock ECU, get it reflashed, or get a power commander? Thinking of following you down this path. Houston Superbike has full systems for 2399...
Thanks for posting that question. I meant to post or PM her that same thing but keep forgetting. [bang]
The new exhaust system works as well as it sounds. Mid-range power is noticeably improved. Removing all three catalytic converters helped, no doubt :D It runs well at all speeds with the stock ECU - no pre-ignition ping and the engine runs at the same temperature as before. Fuel economy is roughly the same; maybe a bit worse but not enough to change my 120 mile range for the low fuel light to come on.
Having said that, though, I think performance-wise there's room for tuning. A Power Commander or something like it would make the thing downright dangerous. So of course I'll add one when I get the cash.
But the main benefit has been in handling - loose ten pounds of stock exhaust and wonderful things happen...
Best mod evah.
I sure do want to hear that 999! [drool]
