Agreed. But common courtesy would lead the owner of such to keep it in the garage, workshop, or out of view as its being molded into its latest form.
Not disagreeing, but let's say the guy is a hot rodder, and needs 2 or 3 cars to make one...

...and doesn't have a 4 car garage to store the parts cars and a bay to work in until the project is done.

Not everyone that has 'junk' is being inconsiderate. They might just be trying to 'live a dream'.

IMO it's the neighbor that won't let him live his life in peace that's being inconsiderate.

That's why I live here and not in so many other places.

HOA's are a necessary evil in places that allow 3 junk cars in a driveway (or lawn, the ultimate in trashiness) and such BS.

My lawn is my driveway  :P

Sounds like you should have a load #3 - delivered to your place. besides you would have something to move with your tractor.

Just get covered in pine needles and becomes something else I need to keep clean somehow.

I thought I saw redwoods on your property dropping redwood needles all over the place.

When his "living in peace" drops the value of another's property he isn't living in peace.

Thus the existence of HOA's.

Tell him to move here.

I'll help him with his hot rod, and then help him haul the scrap off when he's done so has room for the next project.

You guys can worry about your property values, your manicured lawns, and what color or how many windows are on your neighbors houses.

I'd rather have a neighbor.

You just want someone to con into helping you make dust.

I'd rather just have a neighbor too (I'm friends with all my neighbors now, without a HOA). I wouldn't even mind the hot rod situation you described DP, and would probably offer to help, if it was temporary.

What some don't understand here is some people have to live in cities, with closely spaced houses, due to work. I'd rather live somewhere a little less urban, where what your neighbor does or how they keep their house is irrelevant, but that isn't an option (without dealing with a massive commute). If I have to, or want to, move for some reason, I don't want my neighbor's activities lowering my home value or making it overly hard to sell. It isn't an unreasonable request in closely spaced developments.

Again, not saying I like HOAs...but I do understand why they exist. I hope to never have to deal with one, and always have nice neighbors.

I think HOAs work in Condos. We have shared space, club room, deck, fitness room, etc. that all need upkeep. My building has 176 units and we all live in close proximity. We need some basic rules to keep the place looking nice and to help maintain the peace.

In a stand alone house, I would not want an HOA.

I would agree with that.

That sums it up.

Can I add that tenants also suck. If it wasn't for the fact that I simply don't want to ruin my credit, I would completely walk away from this property.

well....I want to reinforce 1 aspect....we seem to all be bagging on HOA's as a whole...a set of covenants is put in place for an HOA to enforce...the HOA is as good or as strict or as sorry as the people that make it up...pair that with basic communication and you have yourself some reality here about how liberal or strict the rules can actually be...if you are a participant and are reasonable and you don't have busybodies that have nothing better to do than to enforce the strictest letter of all the rules....you probably will have a lot less headaches than what most suffer because of their inability to be a participant in their own neighborhood.

Remember that the property is in Boca, retirement capitol of the world. Busybodies are the norm there and I generally didn't mind them. They love to badmouth people and in general can be annoying simply because they're looking for someone to vent. The main cause of my pain is how some of the board members seem to have a superiority complex. We all have the same rights. They have no more power than the owner that never goes to the meetings. These guys think that they hold our collective lives in their hands.
