What you were thinking,  I remember as a kid. Fancy plumbimg took awhile to make it to small country towns.
In the summer, you could smell the "dunny truck" while it was half a mile down the road. He carried the "dunny can" to the truck and hoisted it overhead to empty it into the open tank. Holy Occ health and safety!
My teenage kids are amazed when I tell them about this, and how bread and milk were delivered by horse and cart by the milkman and baker. They were blown away by how we left the money and empty milk bottles on the door step.
