There are enough bad people in Westeros. More than anything GRRM tries to keep things balanced. You could say that once they got rid of THE good guy, that being Ned Stark, they would need to eventually get rid of THE bad guy. Waiting to the end of the series would be the most predictable thing they could do.

Ok. So, my first question is...are we using this thread for speculation and theories? I know a lot of you have read the books and clearly I haven't yet and would like to but im having too much fun with just the show right now.

If so, my second question is... if the King dies and has no heir, who then rules? I thought it might be the Kings Hand but not sure. Any help here?

I haven't read the books, so this is speculative.  The wedding was completed, so I think the (new) queen is now technically in charge of the realm.  I could be wrong.  But then again, none of that matters since every and anyone will lay claim to it or try to wrestle it from whoever has the crown because, ya know, game of thrones.

Yes. But the wedding was not consummated. I think that has something to do with it. Also, in the "what's coming next week" blurb.. the new queen says she "would have been queen" which insinuates she is not.

All I know is this make the beast with two backsing show is the only thing stopping me from cutting the cable cord and at this point I don't give a shit.

Good points.  I did not see the "coming next week".  In any case, in a few days you and I will both know the answer.

I say cut it!  Avoid this thread and then in 8 weeks go to a friend's house that has cable, bring a bottle or sixpack or some other housewarming gift, walk straight to his/her couch, and then binge watch the rest of a season 4.

He created ongoing tension that carried a lot of characters.

don't assume his death won't create tension, as well.  ;D

I have read all the books, but you can tell the answer from the previous seasons...

When Fat King Robert died and the rumors were flying that his children were not his, both his brothers stepped up to grab the throne. So with that in mind, when a king dies with no heir, it falls to the next eldest male sibling.

By the way, in the books they reveal who kills Joffrey, but I'm not sure if they'll follow the book on this one. They have diverged enough for me to think that they might lay it on someone else.

Some of the "recent" divergences include killing Rob Stark's wife, in the book they hold her captive (sort of), and Jaime Lannister's fencing partner, in the book Ser Ilyn Payne (the King's Justice) who's missing a tongue.

The show drops plenty of hints at who did it. They stayed mostly inline with the book. FWIW GRRM wrote this episode.

The actor that plays Ilyn Payne has cancer and is spending time with his family, thus the change. More Bron is good for everyone.

I did not know that he was fighting cancer  :(

Bron is a great character, or better said, the relationship between Bron and Tyrion is a great matchup.

Not sure who they're going to blame considering that they might have thrown those hints out there to mislead people. I think we can all agree that it won't be Tyrion.

At first I was pissed he died so simple.  Thought it would be fitting to be bloody and gruesome.. but after seeing it a Se on time,  it was much better he died knowing he would.  Slow, in fear with pregnant dog mom watching helplessly.

You can say a lot about how the Starks died, but it was pretty quick.

It's another divergence.  He should be dead by now.
